NORMAL, Ill. - Shannon McGlaughlin tallied a match-best 18 kills, tied a team-high 12 digs and hit .438, as the Illinois State volleyball team swept Loyola (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) Tuesday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. The Redbirds finish non-conference play with an 8-4 record, while the Ramblers begin Horizon League play with a 3-6 mark.

Jenny Menendez matched McGlaughlin with 12 digs, while Kaitlyn Early was credited with the Redbirds' loan solo block of the night. Mary Kate Styler led Loyola with 15 kills, and Cat Languido amassed 16 digs.

McGlaughlin led the Redbirds in the first set with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage, in addition to seven kills and five digs. There were four lead changes and nine tie scores during the opener, including a late 22-22 tie. However, the Redbirds pulled away from Loyola thanks to three unanswered points by Brooklyn Hlafka, McGlaughlin and LeighAnn Hranka.

After trailing 18-13 midway through the second set, the Redbirds went on a 7-to-1 run to take a 21-19 advantage, and ultimately, win the set. Hlafka and Hranka each tallied two kills during the stretch. Illinois State secured the second-set victory on a McGlaughlin kill. McGlaughlin again led Illinois State in set-kills, with five.

Loyola jumped out, 3-0, in the third set, but the Redbirds scored five unanswered points to take a 5-3 advantage. The Ramblers eventually regained the lead at 11-10. Later in the set, trailing 17-12, Illinois State went on a 10-to-1 run, to go ahead 22-18. An attack error by Loyola's Melissa Hastings ended the match.

With the non-conference schedule complete, the Redbirds start Missouri Valley Conference play Friday at Missouri State. The Redbirds will then travel to Wichita State Saturday.
