Women's Tennis To Travel North For Dual Weekend In Iowa

April 9, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - This weekend, the Illinois State women's tennis team will play two Missouri Valley Conference matches in Iowa, facing Northern Iowa and Drake on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Illinois State is currently ranked at No. 4 overall in the MVC standings.

On Saturday, ISU (8-6, 1-1 MVC) will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to face UNI (10-10, 0-3 MVC). The last time the Redbirds met the Panthers was during the 2013 spring season at home when Illinois State defeated Northern Iowa, 6-1. Over the course of the last eight seasons, ISU has found victory in all but two meetings between the teams.

The following day, the Redbirds will travel west to Des Moines, Iowa to battle the Drake Bulldogs (12-4, 1-1 MVC). During the 2013 spring season, ISU fell to BU, 4-3, while on the road. Similarly to UNI, Illinois State has defeated Drake six of the last eight times the teams have met.

The weekend's matches mark the third and fourth MVC matches for the Redbirds. After this weekend concludes, Illinois State is slated to play two more consecutive matches during the following week before remaining at home, to host the 2013-14 MVC Tennis Championships in Normal, Ill., on April 25-27.
