Women's Tennis to Battle Illinois-Chicago

Feb. 20, 2014

GARITH, Ind. - The Illinois State women's tennis team is preparing to travel to Garith, Ind., this Sunday, Feb. 23 to face Illinois-Chicago.

Last week, the Redbirds (5-3) ended a five-game winning streak by falling, 5-2, to No. 49 Nebraska, despite earing the doubles point. They hope to regain the momentum this weekend as ISU battles in-state rival, UIC.

"We've had some really positive moments, and the kids are capable of playing really well," head coach Chris Hoover said. "It's there. We just have to put it together. We need more than a couple of people to show up and play well on the same day, and if we do that, we can win a lot of tennis matches."

Illinois State has faced Illinois-Chicago in nine of the last 10 seasons, claiming victory over the Flames three times, during the 2008-09, 2006-07 and 2003-04 seasons.

The Redbirds will take on the UIC beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
