MUNCIE, Ind. - The Illinois State women's tennis team advanced in four out of nine singles competitions and three out of eight doubles matchups, as the Redbirds wrapped up their first day at the season-opening Ball State Fall Invite Friday.

After beginning the day at Ball State's Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, wet weather forced the teams indoors to conclude day one at the YMCA Northwest Tennis Center. All 12 squads will resume invitational-play Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.

In Friday's singles play for the Redbirds, Emmie Marx advanced in Flight B with a 7-6(8), 6-4 victory over Arkansas State's Biljana Miloshevska. In Flight C Singles, Kadi Ilves won, 6-4, 6-2, over Eastern Kentucky's Saioa Oscoz, and Madeliene Baillon also advanced because her competitor withdrew due to injury. Meanwhile, Heather Nisbet defeated Wright State's Megan McNamara, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles action, Flight A competitors Marx and Nisbet beat Ana Rajkovic and Christine Guerrazzi of Miami (Ohio), 8-5, before falling to a Cleveland State duo. In Flight B, Illves and Baillon swept Valparaiso's Aubree Zdanovec and Morgan Paras, 8-0, before losing to Eastern Kentucky in the next round. The Redbirds also picked up another Flight B win over Valparaiso, as Gabby Phillips and Ashton Nisbet defeated Megan Barthels and Angelina Goheen, 8-3.

With day one complete, the Ball State Fall Invite resumes Saturday at 8 a.m. CT with one doubles round and two singles rounds.
