Baillon Serves Up Success As Redbirds Fall to No. 50 Wichita State

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- Freshman Madeliene Baillon found success in both singles and doubles play in Saturday's match versus Wichita State, earning the lone point for the Redbirds who fell to the nationally ranked Shockers, 6-1.

In double's competition, Baillon and partner, Phyllis Tigges, beat Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalava, 8-6, in the No. 1 position. The Redbirds fell in No. 2 and No. 3, losing the doubles point.

Baillon was the only Redbird to claim a victory in singles competition, edging Abby Stevens, 6-2,3-6, 14-12, in a third-set tie-breaker.

"I think we had a shot at the doubles, but we let it get away," head coach Chris Hoover said. "They're a good team and they're pretty much who everyone is looking to beat right now. We're not giving up, we're going to keep fighting to take down the rest of the conference teams."
