DeLAND, Fla. - Sierra Stone led Illinois State with a No. 4 singles victory and Phyllis Tigges and Madeliene Baillon earned a No. 1 singles win; however, Stetson teamed up to top the Redbirds, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

Tuesday's match marked the Redbirds' (6-4) first outdoor contest of the spring season, with the daytime-high reaching 81 degrees under partly cloudy skies in DeLand, Fla. With the win, Stetson (9-1) extended its winning streak to nine-straight matches.

"In our first match outside, the team fought hard, but we just didn't adjust in acclimating to the temperature, and everything was a little tough," head coach Chris Hoover said. "But, it was a hard-fought match, and the team competed well. We had our chances in some spots, but we just didn't quite get it done."

Stetson jumped ahead, 1-0, after earning the doubles point despite Tigges and Baillon topping Diana Bukajeva and Isabella Fernandez, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles. However, Emmie Marx and Stone fell, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles, and Heather Nisbet and Kadi Ilves lost, 8-1, in No. 3 doubles.

The Hatters then pulled ahead, 4-0, before Stone earned ISU's lone point by beating Cari Barry in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). In a match that included three third-set tiebreakers, Marx followed Stone's victory with a 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (10-4) loss to Fernandez. Carolina Abello then fell in the final match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
