Redbirds beat Creighton, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. - The Illinois State women's tennis team defeated former Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton, 5-2, while on the road during the first of three matches this weekend.

"We didn't play as well as we did last weekend," head coach Chris Hoover said. "I think we were doing a lot of the right things today, but we just weren't executing it well."

In doubles competition, the Redbirds swept Creighton in all three matches to earn the first point.

In Doubles Flight 1, Madeline Baillon and partner Phyllis Tigges edged Jennie Hartjes and Katherine Nelsen, 7-6, in a come-back tie-breaker after the Redbirds struggled to keep up in the beginning of the match. Emmie Marx and Sierra Stone defeated Analese Snyder and Amanda Noonan, 6-3, in the Flight 2 position, while Heather Nisbet and Kadi Ilves beat Liz Vermillion and Sam Anderson, 6-3, in Doubles Flight 3.



In singles play, Carolina Abello swept Creighton's Hartjes, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 2 singles, while Stone beat Nelsen, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. Baillon claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Vermillion in No. 4 singles, and Ilves defeated Anderson, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 6. Marx fell, 6-1, 6-0, to Hartjes in No. 1 singles, and in No.5 singles, Natalia Parchowska fell to Noonan, 6-2, 6-1.
