NORFOLK, Va. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team was selected as one of the top 10 Division I schools to receive the Team Scholar All-American Award by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Redbirds have been recognized with the award, after earning an impressive fall semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.51.

The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring). The Team Scholar All-American Award is supported each year by Nike.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level. This year's team was made up of 147 Division I women's swimming and diving teams. Amongst them the Redbirds topped the list tying for ninth-place with Drexel University, Iona College and the University of Toledo.

Along with being named as a Scholar All-American Team by the CSCAA, Illinois State had 12 student-athletes named to the Missouri Valley Conference 2014 Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete Team. Sophomore Kelly Sanks earned a perfect 4.0 and was among only three student-athletes in the conference to achieve that honor.
