NORMAL, Ill. - - Illinois State swimming and diving is preparing to be back on the road again this weekend. The Illinois State divers will be competing at the UIC Diving Invitational on Saturday at 10 am. They will join the swimmers in Indianapolis, Ind. for the Butler Invitational on Sunday at 12 pm.

The Redbirds are coming off a three week hot streak. Illinois State placed second at the Copa Coqui Invitational at the beginning of January falling to Illinois, and won their last two - dual meets against UNI (189-108) and Washington-St. Louis (198-102). Heading into the final weekend of dual-meet competition the Redbirds are 5-1.

Tuesday, diver Wenting Zhang was named MVC Diver of the week for the sixth time this season. She was awarded this honor after placing first on the 3-meter board (340.66) and breaking the Horton Pool record on it. Zhang was also victorious on the 1-meter board (326.10) earning first-place. Diving coach Phil Hoffmann is looking forward to the opportunity the divers have to compete in a two day format this weekend.

"This weekend's meets give us two different opportunities to compete in, but there is a lot of travel," coach Hoffmann said. "I am excited about both of the meets, and that we will have the chance to contend against teams we haven't faced this season. The diving format of the UIC Diving Invitational will help the team focus on the little things and prepare them for the MVC championships. This weekend's schedule provides a two day format for the divers giving them the chance to compete in a format that they will see in February."

Head Coach Steve Paska is happy with the progress the Redbirds have made since their return from Puerto Rico, and is ready to see how they will compete in their final weekend of regular season competition.

"The dual-meet slate for the 2013-14 season is coming to an end," coach Paska said. "This season has flown by, and I am looking forward to witnessing the swimmers compete in our final preparations for the MVC championships. I was pleased with how the team performed last Saturday against Washington-St. Louis compared to the first meet after Puerto Rico. We took the proper steps on what we needed to improve from the UNI meet until now. Next, we need to rest up for the Missouri Valley Championships."
