Missouri Valley Conference Names Zhang Diver of the Week
Jan. 21, 2014
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior diver Wenting Zhang has been named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week. Zhang earned diver of the week after her presentation on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards last Saturday against Washington-St. Louis.
Zhang is given this honor after breaking the Horton Pool record on the 3-meter board with a score of 340.66. She also swept the diving events earning first place on both the 1-meter (326.10) and 3-meter boards. Zhang is in her third season with the Redbirds and this is the sixth time during the 2013-14 season she has been named MVC Diver of the Year and fourteenth time in her career at Illinois State.
Diving coach Phil Hoffmann is elated that Zhang is receiving this award so late in the season.
"Wenting had a very strong weekend against Washington," Hoffmann said. "Her record setting performance was great for this time in the season. She is right where we want her to be at this point. It is a great honor heading into the final weeks before the MVC Championships for her to be receiving this."
This weekend Illinois State Diving will compete in Chicago at the UIC Diving Invitational at 10 am, and again on Sunday with the swim team at the Butler Invitational in Fisher, Ind. at 12 pm CT.
