Zhang Named MVC Diver of The Week

NORMAL, Ill. - Wenting Zhang was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season after a long battle on the diving boards against UNI last weekend.
Zhang helped lead the Redbirds to a 189 -108 victory against UNI taking home first-place on the 3-meter board (330.31) and 1-meter board (306.07). Diving coach Phil Hoffmann is enthusiastic about Zhang's continued progress this season, and looking forward to seeing her compete these next two months.
"Coming off winter training Wenting is looking very good and I look forward to her preparation in the coming weeks for the MVC Championships and the NCAA Zone meet," said coach Hoffmann. "She is right on track for where she should be at this point in the season."
Missouri Valley Conference also announced freshman Kristin Verkler for having a notable performance throughout her presentation against the Panthers. During the UNI meet Verkler placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.50) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.70). She finished her individual performance with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:51.41. Verkler was also part the pool record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 3:33.17.
This weekend Wenting, Verkler and the Redbirds will be going up against Washington-St.Louis at Horton Pool on Saturday Jan. 18 at 12 pm.
