ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Abby Olson's three-run home run in the first inning was not enough, as the Illinois State softball team's season ended at the hands of Wright State, 10-8, Saturday afternoon at the 2010 NCAA Division I Regionals at Alumni Field on Michigan's campus. With one swing of bat, Olson broke the single season home run and RBI records. The junior third baseman ended the season with 19 home runs and 56 RBI.

In the circle, Illinois State utilized both Jordan Birch and Megan Warner. Birch started the game and struck out one Raider batter, while Warner retired two. Warner took the loss, which dropped her record to 15-11.

Illinois State and Wright State each tallied 12 hits in the game. Jhavon Hamilton had three hits, while Brianna Lizen recorded two hits and two RBI.

Illinois State (32-20) got a quick lead over Wright State (31-29-1) in the first inning when Olson hit a three-run home run over the center field wall. Olson's hit drove in Kara Nelson and Niki Stansell.

After a brief rain delay, Wright State shortened ISU's lead by two when Mollie Berry doubled to center field and drove in Justine Shilt, who reached first after being hit by a pitch.

Elizabeth Kay singled through the left side of the infield in the top of the third and moved to second on a Raider passed ball. Michelle Henderson singled to put runners on the corners, which set up an RBI situation for Beth Current. The senior center fielder took advantage of the situation and drove in Kay to increase ISU's lead by three.

Still in the third, Lizen hit a shot to shallow right field that dropped between three Raider players and drove in Henderson. A single through the right side of the infield by Hamilton pushed Current across for the sixth Redbird run.

The Raiders' Kristen Bradshaw hit a line drive to left field to a diving Hamilton, who was not able to hang on to the ball, and scored Wright State's second run of the game in the bottom of the third. WSU continued to chip away at ISU's lead when Louie Haney reached base on a fielder's choice and quickly stole second. China Frost singled to right field and the Raider runners moved into scoring position on a Redbird error. Wright State executed a flawless squeeze bunt by Shilt that scored Haney. Frost crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Perkins to cut ISU's lead to two runs, 6-4.

Current walked to lead off the fifth inning followed by a single to left center field by Jessica Roche. Lizen hit into a fielder's choice that forced Current out at third, but Hamilton singled through the right side of the Raider infield to load the bases. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to center field that drove in Roche increasing the Redbirds' lead by three.

Wright State loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with one out when Allison Cox hit a grounder to left field and drove in Shilt. Katie Kine hit a single to right field to drive in two Raider runners tying the game, 7-7. The Raiders loaded the bases for a second time in the inning, but the Redbirds were able to work out of the jam.

In the bottom of the sixth, Berry hit a single passed a diving Stansell and scored Perkins to give the Raiders their first lead of the game. WSU's lead was lengthened by Cox, who sent a two-run shot over the left field wall increasing Wright State's lead by three.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Illinois State was not going down without a fight. Lizen singled up the middle and drove in Current. The run cut Wright State's lead to two. ISU's effort was not enough as it fell on a shallow fly ball to center field for the third out.
