NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore goalkeeper Sasha Reiber was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday, Oct. 19, as announced by the league office, marking her fourth honor of this kind in her career and first honor this season.

Reiber's honor marks the fourth-straight MVC Player of the Week award for the Redbirds. Redbird senior Danielle Mutters was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 28), while Alyssa Schulz and Jessica Carlson were named Offensive Player of the Week, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12, respectively.

Reiber went undefeated this week in conference play, recording back-to-back conference shutouts. Reiber is now 6-4-1 on the season with four total shutouts. Reiber now has 10 in her career which ranks third in Illinois State history for career shutouts.

Sunday's (Oct. 18) win over Evansville marked Reiber's third-straight conference victory. With the six wins, Reiber is tied for 10th place for most wins in a season at Illinois State. Reiber has 1.27 goals against average this season, while she ranks fourth at Illinois State for career goals against average (1.04).

"Sasha did a great job this past week of reading the play and staying connected with our back line," said head coach Drew Roff. "Our team as a whole did an excellent job of making sure she wasn't put under any consistent pressure, but when called upon, Sasha was very sharp and the result was two shutout victories."

Reiber led the Redbird (9-5-1, 4-0-0 MVC) defense who only allowed six total shots by opponents on the week. Illinois State shutout Northern Iowa, 5-0, and Evansville, 4-0, to extend its winning streak to seven games. The Redbirds are only one win away from tying the program record for most consecutive wins in a season and only two wins away from tying the league record.

Indiana State's Katlin Owens was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week this week.

The Redbirds will not play again until Sunday (Oct. 25) as they continue conference play at home against Drake at 1 p.m., at Adelaide Street Field. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
