Soccer Program Hosts Various Summer Camps
May 3, 2007
NORMAL, Ill. - Summer is right around the corner and for the Illinois State soccer coaches that means hosting soccer camps for area youth. The Redbirds will host a Soccer Day Camp on June 18-21 and then head coach Drew Roff will sponsor the Redbird Soccer Camp for Girls on July 18-22.
The day camp is open to both girls and boys, ages seven to 13 and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the third week of June. Roff and assistant coach Shawn Mecchi will direct the campers, with other experienced coaches and collegiate players helping to create a fun and challenging environment. Campers of all ages and skill levels will gain valuable soccer knowledge while being instructed on technical aspects of the game.
Registration for the Redbird Soccer Day Camp is $140 for those who enroll prior to June 1. The fee will then increase to $150 and registration will remain open until the camp begins on June 18. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt.
Roff's Soccer Camp for Girls will be held from July 18-22 and the mission of the session is to give female players the opportunity to raise their game to a higher level by putting them in an environment that is competitive and challenging. Roff will serve as the camp director, while assistant Redbird coach Shaunna Daugherty will serve as the goalkeeping director. The featured camp coach will be Brian Borde, a USSF "A" licensed coach and high school girl's varsity coach in Milton, Mass.
The Redbird soccer camp is open to all girls' ages 13-18 for both residential and commuter participants. Camp fees are $435 for residents, and that fee includes room and board. Commuters will pay $370 which includes lunch and dinner on each day. All campers will receive a camp t-shirt and official camp notebook.
ISU also offers a team camp option during the week, which in addition to individual technical and tactical instruction, an ISU staff coach will provide teams with analysis and training. Team coaches are welcome to attend and join in the program. Discounts apply to those teams that attend. Specialized goalkeeping instruction will also be offered to those position players who attend. Daugherty will work with goalkeepers at each session, implementing training designed especially for keepers.
