NORMAL, Ill. - Redbird freshman Erin Egolf netted her first goal as a Redbird as the Illinois State women's soccer team clinched its second-straight conference shutout and seventh-straight victory, besting Evansville, 4-0, Sunday at Adelaide Street Field. With the win, the Redbirds are only one win away from tying the program record for longest winning streak.

Egolf was one of four Redbirds to score on the day, while freshman Rachel Bostick scored her fifth goal of the season and third goal in two games. Alyssa Schulz also netted her fifth goal of the season, while Jessica Carlson scored her eight goal and fifth assist on the season. Carlson leads the team in points with 21, moving her to fifth place for points in a season at Illinois State.

"Rachel really has a physical presence out on the field," said head coach Drew Roff. "Teams are trying to figure out how to deal with her. She is starting to understand the position better. She is always great in the air and dangerous on free kicks, but she is really starting to learn how to play as a target player."

Sasha Reiber played all 90 minutes in the net for the Redbirds, capturing her sixth win, fourth shutout and second-straight conference shutout on the season.

"Even though Sasha wasn't tested very much today, she always reads the plays well," said Roff. "She's quick and eliminates issues before they become a problem. She did a nice job today."

With the win, the Redbirds (9-5-1, 4-0-0 MVC) remain undefeated at home and undefeated in conference play. The win also marks the fifth game this season the Redbirds have scored four or more goals in a single game.

On the season, the Redbirds are tied for fourth in program history for goals in a season with 34 and rank fifth for points in a season at Illinois State with 90.

The Redbirds led 2-0 at halftime after a goal by Carlson and Bostick. Carlson scored seven minutes into the half off a throw-in by Amy Heredia, while Bostick scored four minutes later off a corner kick by Carlson.

The Redbird defense once again dominated the second half of play and only allowed four shots by the Purple Aces the entire game. The Redbirds outshot the Purple Aces 20-4 on the game.

The Redbirds sealed the shutout victory by adding two more goals in the second half from Schulz and Egolf. Schulz scored two minutes into the half off an assist from Bostick, while Egolf scored at the 59-minute marker.

With the loss, Evansville falls to 5-9-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Valley play this season. Illinois State now leads the all-time series, 7-6-3, over Evansville.

The Redbirds will not play again until next Sunday (Oct. 25) as they continue conference play at home against Drake at 1 p.m. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
