NORMAL, Ill. - Juniors Erica Schick and Hannah Deutsch have spent the entire season preparing for the NCAA South Central Regional competition, which is set for Saturday at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo. at 6 p.m.

Schick will compete in the all-around and is going into the meet ranked No. 18 in the region with a regional-qualifying score (RQS) of 38.830. Deutsch will be competing on the balance beam and enters the competition as No. 18 in the region, as well, with an RQS of 9.805.

Head coach Bob Conkling believes both gymnasts are well-prepared for the meet.

"I think both student-athletes are going to do very well," Conkling said. "They have greatly improved throughout the season and both had strong workouts before we left for the meet. They are very confident in themselves and I have confidence in them."

This marks Schick's third appearance in regionals. Last season, she placed 18th in the all-around with a score of 38.000. As a freshman, Schick scored a 38.575 in the all-around for a ninth place finish. This is Deutsch's first time in regional competition, although she boasts international experience, competing in the Maccabiah Games last summer.

Conkling remarked on the attitudes both the student-athletes are bringing into the competition.

"Both gymnasts are going in with a "go after it" attitude," Conkling said. "It is very difficult to qualify for nationals, so they have nothing to lose but everything to gain."

Sophomore Melissa Mann will join Schick and Deutsch in Missouri as an alternate on the balance beam. Mann enters the competition ranked No.19 in the region with an RQS of 9.800.

"There is going to be very stiff competition against school like Georgia and Oregon State," Conkling said. "We have the advantage of having competed at Missouri previously this season. I think both student-athletes are going to do amazing and I'm very excited to watch."
