Koshman and Schick Selected to Compete in NCAA Regionals
April 1, 2008
NORMAL, Ill. - Junior co-captain Meaghan Koshman and freshman Erica Schick were each selected to compete in the 2008 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships, as announced by the NCAA. Koshman and Schick will be competing in the South Central Region. The event will be held in Norman, Okla., on April 12, and the meet set to begin at 6 p.m.
Head coach Bob Conkling is proud of both gymnasts' accomplishments.
"Both gymnasts deserve it," said Conkling. "Both of them had solid years. Meaghan (Koshman) made it for the vault the past two years, so it is nice to see her make it in the all-around. It is a great honor that Erica (Schick) made it as a freshman in the all-around. She had a great performance at the conference meet."
The NCAA Regionals are broken down into six regions. The teams and individual gymnasts will travel to their assigned location. Each region has six teams, five all-around competitors, who are not qualified with a team, and one individual event specialist per event. The individual specialist must have a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4.
Koshman and Schick will be competing in the all-around competition. They will be facing Holly Reichard and Leah Johnson from Northern Illinois and Annie Kachman of Illinois-Chicago.
Koshman will enter the competition with an all-around RQS of 38.455, while Schick will compete with a 38.395.
Koshman will rotate with Arizona State, while Schick will move with Illinois.
The six teams that make up the field for the South Central Region are Alabama, Oklahoma, Boise State, Arizona State, Illinois and Midwest Indpendent Conference (MIC) rival Southeast Missouri.
