NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team will host the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Championships this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Redbird Arena. The six-team meet will include gymnasts from Illinois State, Lindenwood, Southeast Missouri State, UIC, Texas Woman's and Centenary College of Louisiana.

Head coach Bob Conkling is excited to see his team's improvement, in what he expects to be a very competitive meet with quality gymnasts.

"The team has been progressing very well this week and we have a few gymnasts back in line up on floor and vault which should help us out a lot," Conkling said. "The team, coaches and staff are excited to be hosting the MIC Championships at Redbird Arena. I expect it to be a very close and strong competition with many teams having a chance to take home the title. I believe the team who is the most consistent on all four events will be the Conference Champion team."

The Redbirds are coming off a 195.200-191.825 loss to UIC, despite sophomore Amanda Mohler recording a career-best tying score of 9.850 to win the balance beam competition and earn MIC Specialist of the Week honors. Additionally, Mohler posted a 9.825 to contribute to a team season-high 49.000 on the uneven bars competition. Senior Jenna Bossle also added a season-high 9.875 on the uneven bars to take third place in the event.

Last season, Illinois State took second at the MIC Championships and junior Sami King won the all-around competition with a career-best 39.32, which qualified her for the NCAA Regional competition meet.
