Redbirds to Compete in Dual-Meet Finale at UIC

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team is hitting the road to compete in their last dual-meet of the season against Illinois-Chicago Saturday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Physical Education Building.

Head coach Bob Conkling is looking forward to competing against UIC for the second time this season, and expects it to be a competitive meet.

"We always like competing against UIC because we know it will be a good competition," Conkling said. "UIC has been consistent the second half of the season and we will have to be solid on all four events to be competitive. As always, we have been focused on consistency and polishing up our routines this week. Our goal is to go in with a positive attitude and trust our training when performing our routines in competition."

Last weekend, the Redbirds fell to Southeast Missouri 195.025-192.425 in Houck Field House. Senior Jenna Bossle won the uneven bars competition with a season-high tying score of 9.850 and sophomore Danci Cha posted a career-best 9.850 on the balance beam. Additionally, senior Kim Caron won the all-around competition with a score of 37.450.

The Flames are coming off a close 195.075-194.225 loss to Western Michigan at University Arena, last weekend. Senior Catherine Dion won the all-around competition with a score of 39.375 and teammate junior Gabrielle May took second with a score of 38.875. Freshman Kimberly Randall and Dion shared first place on the vault competition after posting scores of 9.800.

ISU and UIC met earlier this season at the Illinois Classic on Feb. 21 in Horton Field House. The Flames took second place with a team score of 194.300, and the Redbirds took fourth with an overall score of 193.200. Dion took third place in the all-around competition with a score of 39.125 and won the uneven bars competition with a 9.900.
