NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team is hosting Penn in its annual PINK meet to support women's cancer awareness, Saturday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. in Horton Field House. Senior gymnasts Jenna Bossle, Kim Caron, and Elise Gray will be recognized at the conclusion of the home dual-meet finale. During the meet, former Illinois State gymnastics alumni a part of RB4L will be recognized.

Head coach Bob Conkling is excited to face Penn for the second time this season after having a strong week of practice.

"The team has been progressing well this week and have gotten more efficient in their workouts," Conkling said. "I expect Penn to be stronger and more consistent than when we competed against them at the beginning of the season."

The two teams met in the beginning of the season when Penn hosted Illinois State on Jan. 18, in Philadelphia. Junior Sami King won the all-around with a score of 38.975 to lead the Redbirds to a 190.400-187.900 victory over the Quakers.

The Redbirds are looking to build off a 193.200 season-high team score performance in a quad-meet against UIC, NIU and U of I last weekend. Junior Sami King earned MIC Specialist of the week after scoring a career-best 9.925 on the floor exercise and tying her season-high 9.825 on the balance beam to win both events. While ISU fell to all three teams, the night was highlighted by a number of season and career-high performances by multiple Redbird gymnasts.

Penn is coming off a third place finish at the Ivy Classic on Sunday scoring a 190.150, finishing behind Brown and Yale, and ahead of Cornell. The Quakers were led by junior Wynne Levy on vault (9.600) and freshman Kelly Tan on beam (9.650). On floor, Penn was led by freshman Rachel Graham, who posted a 9.850 while sophomore Amber Hu led Penn on bars, scoring a 9.675.

All fans attending this free admission meet are encouraged to wear pink in support of women's cancer awareness. Additionally, Sodexo will offer $1 hotdogs.

"We hope that we have a lot of our fans come out to support the team and celebrate our seniors," Conkling said. "Remember to wear pink for breast cancer awareness."
