Redbirds Head Home to Take on Conference Rival Lindenwood
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's gymnastics team is heading home to Horton Field House after a two-meet road swing to take on conference rival Lindenwood on Friday at 7:00 p.m., in the annual Pack the House meet.
Junior Sami King is coming off a sweep of all four events after posting scores of 9.725 on vault, 9.700 on the uneven bars and a 9.775 on the balance beam and floor exercise last Saturday at Penn. King recorded an all-around score of 38.975 to lead the Redbirds to their first victory of the season.
Head coach Bob Conkling and his team feels ready to show the Redbird fans a new and improved team after traveling to Iowa State and Penn the past two weekends.
"We are excited to be back at home after two weeks on the road," Conkling said. "We feel we have improved a lot over the past couple weeks and we are ready to show the home crowd that improvement."
Lindenwood is coming off a first-place finish at a home quad meet after posting a team score of 191.575, its fourth-best team score in the program's history. Seattle Pacific finished with a score of 190.450, UW-La Crosse was third with a score of 188.650, and UW-Oshkosh was fourth with a mark of 185.875.
Sophomore Courtney Heise led the way for Lions, after recording a score of 9.90 on the uneven bars, which was the highest individual mark for a Lindenwood gymnast on any event in program history.
"We expect Lindenwood to have a strong team and give us a tough competition," Conkling said. "I believe the competition will come down to which team shows the most consistent routines on all four events."
