Deutsch Wins MIC Gymnast of the Week
Jan. 14, 2009
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore Hannah Deutsch was awarded the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Gymnast of the Week awarded Jan. 14. Deutsch received the award for her exceptional performance against Central Michigan Jan. 9.
"I am so excited for Hannah to win gymnast of the week," said ISU head coach Bob Conkling. "She is just the most consistent gymnast we have right now. Hannah has been competing in the three events and scoring high in those events all year. For a gymnast to be that solid on all three events is very beneficial to the team. I'm hoping that she carries that consistency with her throughout the season."
Duetsch's consistency played a big part in the Redbirds near victory at Central Michigan, 192.225-191.825. She marked two second place finishes with a 9.775 on both the balance beam and for her floor routine. She also tied for fourth on the vault with a 9.675.
Deutsch is ranked second in the conference on the floor exercise (9.775) and third on the balance beam (9.775). She is also ranked in the top twenty gymnasts in the region in both events
The Illinois State gymnastics team will compete in its next meet Saturday at East Lansing, Mich., against Michigan State, Iowa, and West Virginia.
