NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State gymnastics team took third place in a tri-meet on Friday night against Iowa State and Michigan in Ames, Iowa at Hilton Coliseum.

Michigan placed first as a team with a total score of 196.525. Iowa State totaled 194.600 to place second and Illinois State took third with a score of 187.400.

Head coach Bob Conkling is confident that his team is better than the performance they showed tonight.

"We struggled tonight, as a team we were off," said Conkling. "While balance beam and vault were better than last week, the floor exercise was not good and we lacked consistency. We are a better team than what we showed tonight. From here we will go back to the drawing board and try and improve."

Junior Sami King posted a score of 9.775 to lead the Redbirds to a strong showing of 47.000 on the balance beam. However, the team struggled on the following rotation by posting a score of 46.150 on the floor exercise. Sophomore Sarah Fisher led the way with a score of 9.700 and senior Jenna Bossle contributed a 9.625.

Freshman Kristyn Bossle and King posted scores of 9.650 on bars to contribute to a total team score of 47.100, however no other Redbird gymnast was able to post a score higher than a 9.500.

King took fourth place in the all-around with a score of 37.550, while senior Kim Caron followed with a score of 36.325 to take home fifth place.

The Redbirds return to action on Jan. 18 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Penn at Hutchinson Gymnasium. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
