Women's Golf Set to Compete in Pinehurst Challenge

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Pinehurst, N.C., to compete in the Pinehurst Challenge, Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 Pinehurst Resort course.

Head coach Darby Sligh is looking forward to her team getting back on the field and regaining its momentum after the18th-place finish at the Rio Verde Invitational.

"After such a rough weekend, we are ready to get back into competition and start sharpening things up for the last part of the season," Sligh said. "We are not far off from doing something spectacular, and it is my hope that this weekend in Pinehurst is our time. We will continue to fight until the end."

Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Rachel Powers, Jordyn Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell. Juniors Hayley Guyton and Brianna Cooper will round out the line-up, with junior Lauren English participating as an individual.

Illinois State will compete against 14 other schools across all conferences, including Appalachian State, Boston University, Bucknell, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Middle Tennessee State, SCAD-Savannah, Siena, USC Upstate and Western Michigan.

The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days starting with Saturday at a time that is yet to be announced and Sunday with a 8:45 a.m. (CST) shotgun start.
