VENICE, Fla. - - Illinois State women's golf seniors Stacey Miller, Hannah Bachman and Britt Knutson were the only three players of eight to win the individual rounds of the one-day, two-team Illinois Challenge against in-state rivalry, Illinois. ISU fell to the Illini, loosing nine of the 12 matches.

The morning four-ball matches proved to be a struggle for the `Birds, losing all four matches.

"This morning was a tough finish for the 'Birds," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We fought 30 mph winds, but couldn't get any putts to drop. I'm proud of the way we fought to the finish; we just simply came up short."

ISU won three of the eight afternoon individual matches, to give the team a total of three points.

"Today was extremely tough for us," said Sligh. "We couldn't quite get all the pieces to fall together. There were some bright spots in the afternoon and everyone fought hard to the finish, but Illinois played very solidly in all of the elements and we just came up short today."

The Redbirds continue the spring season on Feb. 14, at the Qdoba Collegiate in Miami, Fla., at the Don Shula Resort.

"It was a great experience for everyone and an opportunity to prepare for Miami in two weeks," added Sligh. "We are looking forward to the rest of the season." Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
