BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Illinois State seniors Stacey Miller and Marisa Milligan led the Redbirds to fifth place as a team in first two rounds of the two-day, three-round Indiana Invitational. Milligan fired a career low 69 in the first round, while Miller fired the second lowest score for ISU with an even-par 72. ISU ended the day with a score of 601 (294-307), just six strokes behind the leading team, Indiana.

"This was an emotional day across the board," said head coach Darby Sligh. "For our seniors, this marks their last regular season tournament of their careers. Couple that with our lowest 18-hole round of the season, an eight-shot lead after the morning round and that makes for an exciting day."

The `Birds carded a 294 during the first 18 holes to begin the second round in first place as a team. Along with Milligan and Miller's impressive first round scores, junior Terra Miller fired a four-over 76 and seniors Britt Knutson and Laura Harris posted a 77 and an 80, respectively.

"Marisa broke through with her first sub-70 round at Illinois State and Stacey also played very solidly," Sligh said.

In the second round, Miller fired the lowest round for the `Birds with a three-over par 75 to end the first day in a tie for fifth place with a 147 (72-75). Beginning the second round in first place as an individual, Milligan finished two places behind Miller to tie for seventh place with a two-round score of 148 (69-79). Remaining consistent, Knutson posted another 77 in the second round to tie for 32nd place with a 154 (77-77).

Terra Miller dropped three strokes from her first round score after firing a 79 in the second round. Miller ended the day in a tie for 36th place with a 155 (76-79). Harris improved four strokes in the second round, carding a four-over 76 to place in a tie for 42nd with a total score of 156 (80-76).

Competing as an individual, sophomore Hannah Bachman is tied for 60th place after posting a two-round score of 159 (81-78).

"Although we gave a few shots back in the afternoon, we are in contention and excited to finish strongly," added Sligh.

The final round of play will begin with tee times at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
