Women's Golf in First Place after Day One

WACO, Texas - After two rounds of competition, the Illinois State women's golf team is currently in first place with a two-round team score of 615 (308-307) at the Baylor Spring Invitational Monday. Junior Stacey Miller led the Redbirds with an 8-over-par 36-hole score of 152 (77-75) on the par-72 Twin Rivers Golf Club. The Redbirds lead the field of 14 teams, while Miller finished the first day of play in a four-way tie for ninth place.

"Today was the day we have been waiting for for some time," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We came together as a team throughout both rounds. Everyone played an integral part of each rounds' success. This is the kind of leadership we have been searching for. Although we have room to keep improving, we are very excited to be in the position that we are going into the final round."

Juniors Laura Harris (79-75) and Marisa Milligan (76-78) each carded a two-round score of 10-over-par, 154. The duo is currently in five-way tie for 13th place. Senior Marci Hill shot a 157 (76-81) in two rounds and is in a five-way tie for 27th. Rounding out the top-five for the Redbirds is senior Tiffany Hockensmith, who carded a 36-hole score of 158 (79-79).

Junior Britt Knutson, who competed individually for the Redbirds, shot a two-round score of 163 (83-80) and is in a three-way tie for 50th place.

Illinois State is leading Baylor, who is in second place, with a 617 (315-302), while New Mexico State rounds out the top-three teams with a score of 619 (316-303). ISU is also leading Missouri Valley Conference rivals Missouri State (623) and Wichita State (657).



Kate Ackerson (SMU) is currently at the top of the leaderboard with a 4-over-par 148 (74-74), while Maggie Murphy (New Mexico State) finished the day in second place with a two-round score of 5-over-par, 149.

The final round of play is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start.
