Redbirds Finish Day Two of Rio Verde Invitational in 17th Place
March 8, 2014
RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Illinois State women's golf team concluded day two of the Rio Verde Invitational with a team score of 642 (315-327), as the Redbirds find themselves in 17th place at the Rio Verde Country Club.
"We continue to add insult to injury," head coach Darby Sligh said. "Our process has gotten better, but our attention to detail is killing our scoring potential. Saturday was a perfect day to hold steady and move up the leaderboard with tough, windy conditions, and we just didn't execute. Sunday is a day to start building some sort of momentum moving forward."
Senior Rachel Powers led the team with a score of 154 (76-78) and is tied for 25th place overall on the individual leaderboard.
Junior Hayley Guyton carded a two-round score of 159 (80-79), advancing to 49th place, while senior Jordyn Wyzgowski is one stroke behind with a 160 (76-84), tying her for 53rd overall. Rounding out the Redbird lineup is senior Carlee Cossell, who shot a 170 (83-87), and junior Lauren English, who finished the day with a two-round score of 185 (99-86).
Xavier 601 (303-298) has advanced to first place, while Missouri Valley Conference powerhouse Wichita State is two-strokes behind remaining in second with a two-round score of 603 (299-304), one stroke ahead of third place Montana with a combined team score of 604 (298-306).
ISU looks to climb the rankings in the third and final round of play Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. (CST), with a shotgun start.
