March 7, 2011
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - After a delayed first-round of play at the Barefoot at the Beach Challenge, the Illinois State women's golf team carded a 50-over-par 626 (313, 313) Monday, placing the Redbirds in ninth place in the field of 15 teams.
Leading the `Birds was junior Hannah Bachman, who fired an eight-over-par 152 (73-79) and finished the second round tied for 14th place. Rachel Powers followed Bachman with a 12-over-par 156 (79-77) and tied for 34th place.
"I can't complain too much despite the windy and cold weather conditions," said head coach Darby Sligh. "At the end of the day we still cannot be happy with the scores we are posting as a team. We continue to have big numbers crush us on the scorecard. We are going into tomorrow with the mindset that we must break through the wall that's holding us back."
Terra Miller finished just one stroke behind Powers, with a 13-over-par 157 (81-76), and tied for 37th place. Katie Jean ended the day tied for 64th place after carding a 21-over-par 165 (80-85) and Jordyn Wyzgowski finished in 76th place with a 27-over-par 171 (90-81).
Competing as an individual, Brianna Cooper ended the second round with a 14-over-par 158 (79-79).
Play at the Barefoot at the Beach continues Tuesday at 9 a.m. (ET) for the final round of play.
