SORRENTO, Fla. - The Illinois State freshmen continue to strive for an advantage in the second day of the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., as Brianna Cooper stepped to the front for the `Birds with a two-over-par 74, that tied her for 51st place.

Cooper's 74 comes after a six-over-par 78 Monday. She currently sits with an eight-over-par 152 (78-74), going into the final 18 holes of the Challenge. Cooper shares the 51st spot with Texas' Nicole Vandermade (77-75) and Kentucky's Ashlee Rose (73-79).

The Redbird's leader in day one, Rachel Powers, shot a nine-over-par 81, to fall into a tie for 65th place.

"Today was obviously not the round we were looking for," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We hit one too many `winter shots' at inopportune times leading to numerous big numbers and bogies. Congratulations to a very solid round by freshman Brianna Cooper in very breezy conditions. We are looking forward to taking what we have learned these past few days and putting it into our final round tomorrow."

Going into the final day of the UCF Challenge in 17th place with a 47-over-par 623 (306-317), Illinois State trails Georgia State by nine strokes going into the final round, as the Panthers hold a 38-over-par 614 (299-315).

Terra Miller held a nine-over-par 81, to tie for 81st place, Hannah Bachman also shot a nine-over-par for 85th place and Katie Jean moved into a tie for 88th place after a 17-over-par 89, in the second round.

Coastal Carolina stepped up its play in the second round as the team and Jessica Alexander moved into sole-possession of first place, after the Green Wave carded a one-over-par 289 and Alexander fired a three-under-par 69. The Green Wave holds a two-under-par 574 (285-289), going into the third round, with Alexander nine-under-par (66-69).

The third and final round of play begins with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday.
