Redbirds Picked Fourth in Valley Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the fifth-consecutive season, the Illinois State women's basketball team was projected to finish in the top-five in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Redbirds were picked fourth in the 2010-11 preseason poll, voted on by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media.
Illinois State received 258 votes in the poll, including two first-place votes. The Redbirds have been picked in the top-five in 19 of the 28 preseason polls in conference history. ISU was picked fourth just once before, in 1996-97, and went on the finish tied for second in the conference regular-season standings.
Missouri State is the preseason favorite to win the conference with 385 points and 27 first-place votes, followed by Northern Iowa (329) and Creighton (328). Illinois State, Wichita State (226) and Bradley (204) round out the top-six teams. Along with Missouri State and Illinois State, Northern Iowa (three) Creighton (seven) and Bradley (one) all garnered first-place votes.
Drake (180), Indiana State (150), Southern Illinois (83) and Evansville (57) occupy the final four spots in the preseason poll.
Illinois State is the three-time defending conference regular season champion and have won at least 13 Valley games in each of the last four years.
