Women's Basketball Announces 2013-14 Non-Conference Schedule
Aug 27, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's basketball team's 2013-14 non-conference schedule has been finalized, as announced Tuesday by head coach Barb Smith. The Redbirds will play 11 non-conference games and one exhibition game.
"We are pleased with our non-conference schedule this year," Smith said. "It's extremely competitive, and we know we will be challenged early. Seven teams on our schedule played in the postseason last year, and having a strong schedule is key to becoming a better basketball team. That's what we're aiming for, and we're excited about the challenge."
Seven of ISU's non-conference opponents made postseason appearances during the 2012-13 season, as DePaul, Tennessee-Martin, Princeton and Penn State qualified for the NCAA Tournament, while Florida and Fordham played in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) with Northern Kentucky in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).
ISU will host Northwest Missouri State in an exhibition game Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2:05 p.m., before going on two-straight road trips to Northern Kentucky (Nov. 13) and DePaul (Nov. 18). The Redbirds will then return home to face Colorado State (Nov. 23).
Next, Illinois State will travel to the Bahamas to compete in the four team Junkanoo Jam. The Redbirds will compete against Florida (Nov. 29) before taking on the winner between Penn State and Oregon State on Nov. 30. ISU will return home to host Northern Illinois (Dec. 5) and Tennessee-Martin (Dec. 8) followed by three-straight road games at Fordham (Dec. 15), Princeton (Dec. 18) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Dec. 22).
The Redbirds will complete the non-conference schedule with a home game against Denver (Dec. 30) at 7:05 p.m.
