Cirone Cracks Top-10 Scoring List; ISU Leads 36-31

NORMAL, Ill. - Junior Kristi Cirone scored 10 of Illinois State's first 14 points, moving her into the No. 10 spot on the all-time career scoring list in Redbird history, and finished with 13 first-half points to give ISU a 36-31 halftime lead over Missouri State in Missouri Valley Conference action Sunday on Doug Collins Court in Redbird Arena.
Cirone, who has scored 1,327 career points at Illinois State, surpassed former Redbird Marla Maupin on the top-10 list.
In the first eight minutes of play, the Redbirds and Lady Bears were tied three times and traded the lead seven times, with each leading by no more than two points. With ISU trailing 18-15 at the 11:41 mark, the Redbirds used a 10-0 run, including six points by Kenyatta Shelton, to build a 25-18 lead, ISU's largest of the game.
ISU maintained a 28-20 edge with 7:22 left in the half, but Missouri State responded with an 11-0 run, including six points by Tiff Terwelp, to take a 31-28 lead at the 4:01 mark. The Redbirds ended the half with an 8-0 spurt, to take a 36-31 lead at the intermission.
Terwelp is Missouri State's leading scorer at the break with 12 points. In addition to Cirone's 13 points, ISU's Maggie Krick has scored nine points and Shelton has added six.
