Redbirds Send Two Doubles Teams Into Day Three of the ITA Central Region Tournament

TULSA, Okla. - Illinois State men's tennis advance two doubles teams into the Division I Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships Friday. The tournament hosted, by Tulsa, will continue at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. and will run through Oct. 23.
The Redbirds sent five individuals into the round of 64 today. Nuno Jacinto was the only member to make it into the round of 32. Jacinto posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Thiago Dos Santos (WSU) in the first round. Advancing to the next level of play he lost 6-2, 7-5, to Adrian Szatmary of Nebraska.
Despite losses in the main draw, the `Birds are fairing well in the consolation bracket. In the round of 32, Alfredo Lagarda defeated Gilheume Marsiglia of Drake (6-1, 6-3). Also capturing a win in the consolation round was junior Luka Marinkovic. He posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Patrick Smith of the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
In doubles action, the `Birds will be advancing two of three doubles teams. Marinkovic and Daniel Tobar defeated Alex Dargel and Clemens Geercken of Oral Roberts (9-7). Also advancing in doubles, Lagarda and Yohann Nograbat posted a 8-6 win over Sean McManus and Paul Feder of Saint Louis University.
Including Illinois State, this tournament features top players from: Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas, Drake, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, St. Louis, Southern Illinois, Tulsa, and Wichita State.
Play will continue tomorrow morning.
