NORMAL, Ill. - Christoffer Greve - a Paradis, Norway native - has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue his education and tennis career at Illinois State, head coach Mark Klysner announced Tuesday. Greve will join the Redbird men's tennis team as a freshman for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
"I am really excited for Christoffer to be joining our team," Klysner said. "He is extremely hard-working with a great work ethic. He is very personable and will fit in with our guys very well. His experience playing indoor tennis will play a big part here."
Greve is the former No. 2-ranked junior in Norway, and he is currently No. 17 among seniors. The 6-foot-1, 161-pound high school senior has proven himself against top young players in Norway and abroad. Greve has results versus current and former NCAA Division I student-athletes, as well as players with International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.
As a high school junior in 2013, Greve was the regional champion in under-18 singles. He won two national Norges Cups in under-18 doubles, while also earning two Norges Cups in under-18 singles. Greves secured two national championship second-place finishes in under-18 singles, and two in under-18 doubles.
Greve joins fellow incoming-freshman, Andreas Boers, who signed an NLI to play at Illinois State last month. Greve ultimately picked ISU after receiving interest from Denver, East Carolina, Penn State and the University of Washington.
