LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Illinois State men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the Louisville Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 14, with seniors Luka Marinkovic and Oscar Beich taking the stage in the semifinals of the Flight A and Flight B Consolation brackets, respectively.

In the Flight A semifinals, Marinkovic topped Abe Souza (Illinois), 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, to advance to the Flight A finals. In the finals, Marinkovic faced Alejandro Calligari (UL), and was defeated 6-2, 6-4.

Head coach Cris James had only good things to say about Marinkovic after his performance this weekend.

"I'm proud and impressed with Luka, he has improved tremendously this fall," said James. "He is playing more under control emotionally, and continues to raise his level of play each time out. I don't think he has even played his best tennis yet; he is playing hard and continually improving. It's nice to see this from a player who is a senior and a team captain, it's a great example."

In the Flight B Consolation, Beich was bested by Johannes John (EKU) in a close semifinal match that went to a tiebreaking third set, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 (10 pt tiebreaker).

The `Birds will have next weekend off from competition before heading to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the ITA Regional Championships the following week. The ITA Regional Championships will start on Wednesday, Oct. 24, and go through Sunday, Oct. 28.
