Men's Golf Opens 2014 Spring Season at the Tinervin Cup
Jan. 24, 2014
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will open up the 2014 spring season Saturday in a head-to-head match-up against in-state rival Illinois at the Tinervin Cup in Placida, Fla., at the Coral Creek Golf Club.
The par 71, 7,038-yard course, will host two matches, starting with a 7 a.m. (CST) shotgun start. The morning will consist of a four ball competition in which two players from each team will compete against one another. In the afternoon, there will be single matches in which players compete against another player from the opposing team. Each match is worth one point, and the team who has the most points will take home the cup.
Head coach Ray Kralis is looking forward to starting off the spring season in a great location against tough competition.
"The Tinervin Cup is a great way for us to start the spring season," Krails said. "It gives us a chance to get some reps under our belt early in the season on a world-class venue, the Coral Creek Club. We love the challenge of competing against one of the top teams in the nation, Illinois, who placed second at the NCAA tournament last year. We are fortunate to have the support of Jeff and Madalyn Tinervin, who have invested their time and energy into making this one of the best experiences in college golf."
Freiburg will lead the Redbirds in single play in the afternoon followed by Fahel, Hawn and Meihofer. Gentilella will play in the No. 5 position followed by Edison.
