ST. LOUIS - Illinois State senior defensive end Colton Underwood wrapped up his impressive career with his second Missouri Valley Football Conference First-Team selection Monday, when he was voted to the unit by league coaches, sports information directors and a media panel.

Underwood led a list of six Redbirds named to the 2013 MVFC all-league units and was joined by second-team selections senior offensive tackle Josh Aladenoye and sophomore middle linebacker Pat Meehan. Senior fullback Jordan Neukirch, junior placekicker Nick Aussieker and junior safety Dontae McCoy rounded out the group as MVFC Honorable Mention selections.

A finalist for the 2013 Buck Buchanan Award, Underwood started all 11 games at defensive end for the Redbirds and led the team with 12 tackles-for-loss, which ranked seventh in the MVFC. The Washington, Ill., native also ranked third on the team with 66 total tackles, and added three sacks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. Also a 2012 MVFC First-Team selection, Underwood was joined on the first team this year by his younger brother Connor, who is a defensive end at Indiana State.

A 2012 MVFC All-Newcomer Team pick, Aladenoye followed up his breakout junior season with a stellar senior campaign. The Mesquite, Texas, native started every game the past two years at left tackle for ISU and graded out at over 90 percent for the 2013 season. Aladenoye was a key member of the offensive line unit that led the way for sophomore running back Marshaun Coprich, who rushed for 885 yards, with nine touchdowns, and recorded four 100-plus yard rushing performances.

Meehan earned his first All-MVFC recognition with his second team selection, after starting nine games at middle linebacker for the Redbirds. The Frankfort, Ill., native led the team with 82 total tackles and ranked fifth in the MVFC with 9.1 tackles per game, despite missing two games due to an ulcer. Meehan added two sacks, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and two pass breakups to his numbers, recovered a fumble and was credited with four quarterback hurries. During a three-game winning streak at home in October, Meehan posted three-straight games with 11 tackles in wins over Indiana State, South Dakota and Northern Iowa.

Neukirch leads a trio of Redbirds as league honorable mention selections, after he ended his career at ISU. A 2012 First-Team All-MVFC pick, Neukirch served as the primary lead blocker for Coprich, who rushed for 885 yards and also caught 10 passes for 72 yards. Aussieker handled all the placekicking and kickoff duties in 2013 and led the team in scoring with 62 points. He was a perfect 35-for-35 on extra point attempts and made 9-of-11 field goal attempts.

McCoy rounds out the group with his first Valley Football recognition. He started all 11 games at strong safety and ranked fourth on the team with a career-high 63 tackles, including 43 solo stops. McCoy capped off the season when he returned his first career interception 64 yards for a touchdown in the season finale at Southern Illinois.
