`Rock the Arena' Scheduled for December 29
Dec. 10, 2010
NORMAL, Ill. - When the Illinois State men's basketball team faces Creighton, historically, there hasn't been a problem getting Redbird Arena rocking. To solidify the gameday atmosphere, the Dec. 29 contest between the Redbirds and the Bluejays has been dubbed as "Rock the Arena" night. In addition to the game, the cover band Brushfire will be on hand to provide in-game entertainment, while $5 upper bowl tickets will be also available.
One of the lead singers in Brushfire is Brett Gillan, a former Illinois State basketball player who lettered from 2000-03. Gillan will also serve as the Redbird Ambassador for the evening and is looking forward to his return to Redbird Arena.
"It's going to be magical," said Gillan. "Back when I played basketball at Illinois State, I was living a dream that I had held since my childhood. Since that fairytale has ended, I have begun living a new dream as a musician. On December 29, those two dreams will sit side by side. For me, it will be an honor to share my new dream with the same people who supported me throughout my career as a Redbird."
"I can't wait to get back and perform in Redbird Arena. That place just has an aura about it. Maybe it's because of the countless hours I spent in there during my college years or the fact that some of the greatest experiences of my life have revolved around it, but I always get a sense of pride whenever I walk through those doors."
