March 24, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - After beating Texas A&M to advance in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), Illinois State learned that it will travel to Siena in Albany, N.Y., for a CBI semifinal-matchup this Wednesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. CT. The two teams are meeting for the first time in program-history.

The Redbirds and Saints - who are both making their first-ever appearances in the CBI - are among the final four teams remaining from the original 16-team field. ISU has earned home wins over Morehead State (March 19) and Texas A&M (March 24), while Siena secured home victories against Stony Brook (March 18) and Penn State (March 24).

In the other CBI semifinal matchup, Old Dominion will play at Fresno State Wednesday, with the winner of both semifinal contests meeting in the best-of-three CBI championship series, March 31-April 4.

Siena and Illinois State shared two common opponents this season in Manhattan and Vermont. The Redbirds lost at home to Manhattan, 79-70, on Nov. 20 and to Vermont, 87-76, on Nov. 27 in the University of San Francisco Golden Gate Challenge. The Saints split their regular-season series with the Jaspers and lost at Vermont.
