ST. LOUIS - For a program-record fifth-consecutive year, the Illinois State men's basketball team has earned Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete recognition. ISU redshirt sophomore guard Nick Zeisloft was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, released by the league office Thursday morning.

Along with his role in ISU's starting lineup, Zeisloft has amassed a 3.71 grade point average (GPA) in Finance. A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week this season and a four-time AFNI Honor Roll member, Zeisloft has earned a perfect 4.0 semester grade-point average (GPA) twice.

While serving as one of Illinois State's two team captains, Zeisloft has played in all 30 games, including 26 starts, averaging 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. The LaGrange, Ill., native is shooting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc with a team-best 53 three-pointers, which ranks eighth in the MVC. He is also shooting 23-for-26 at the free throw line.

Zeisloft earned a career-high 18 points at Evansville (Feb. 12), scored a career-best five three-pointers at Drake (Feb. 1), collected a career-high seven rebounds three times and netted double-figures nine times this season. He has led the team in points and rebounds twice and was recipient of the 2013-14 Dr. James E. Collie Endowed Scholarship.

Illinois State has featured a representative on the Valley Scholar-Athlete team for five-consecutive seasons. The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Capital One Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale).

Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.

After finishing tied for fourth place in the final league standings, Zeisloft and the Redbirds will play Missouri State in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals, with tipoff scheduled for 2:35 p.m. CT Friday. All-session tickets to Arch Madness are available through the Illinois State Athletics Ticket Office by visiting GoRedbirds.com or by calling (309) 438-8000.
