Zeisloft Receives Valley Scholar-Athlete Award Again

January 15, 2014

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State men's basketball redshirt-sophomore guard Nick Zeisloft was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin Wednesday. Zeisloft was honored with the award due to his performances during the time period of January 6 through 12.

Now in its 15th year of existence, The Valley Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

The LaGrange, Ill., native, Zeisloft, averaged 10.5 points per game against Wichita State (Jan. 8) and Loyola (Jan. 11), while shooting 47 percent from the field, totaling nine points at Wichita State and 12 versus Loyola. Holding a starting position in both games, Zeisloft worked the frontcourt averaging 3.5 rebounds per game, in addition to shooting 50 percent beyond the arc in each game. On the season, Zeisloft is averaging 6.8 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game. He is shooting 33 percent beyond the three-point line and is perfect from the charity stripe (10-of-10).

Zeisloft, who holds a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average in finance, won the award twice previously this season in the month of December (4, 27). He has also been selected as a member of the AFNI Honor Roll four times throughout his entire academic career at Illinois State.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
