Redbirds to Play Minnesota State Due to Schedule Change
March 4, 2011
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Illinois State baseball team will play Minnesota State-Mankato tonight, instead of the originally scheduled game against Mount St. Mary's at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. The game is still set for a 6 p.m. CT first-pitch at Chain of Lakes Park.
Mount St. Mary's was forced to cancel its game against the Redbirds after their flight to Orlando, Fla. was delayed earlier today. Minnesota State, an NCAA Division II school, agreed to play ISU as part of a double-header for the Mavericks, beginning with their first game of the season against Slippery Rock, at 2 p.m. CT.
Minnesota State will send left-hander Danny Miller to the mound to face Illinois State right-hander Ryan Camp. The Mavericks went 44-16 and advanced to the NCAA Division II baseball tournament last season, where they finished seventh, after claiming Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and regional titles. Minnesota State enters 2011 rated 10th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association of America (NCBWA) preseason poll. The Mavericks have also been picked to finish first in their conference, according to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Preseason Poll.
The Redbirds are beginning a stretch of eight games in 10 days, including six at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
