NORMAL, Ill.—The Illinois State men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel down the road to Illinois Wesleyan to compete in the Titan Invite Friday at Maxwell Park. The women’s 5K is set for a 4:45 p.m. start, with the men’s 8K to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Illinois State will be sending some new faces to the starting box for the meet, as both teams will be resting their top runners this weekend.

“This meet is an opportunity for our athletes to get some good racing experience in a lower key race setting,” said head coach Jeff Bovee. “There will be talented teams and talented athletes from different places. So, I think this is going to allow some of our younger runners to get some experience and continue to grow as athletes. We look forward to going out there and taking another step forward as we weave our way through the season.”

On the women’s side, Sammi Donovan is making her first appearance in a Redbird uniform, after redshirting her first year. Krista DeCeault, Ashley Kamin, Jackie Mink, Kimi Sanden and Haley Verbeke will also be competing for the Redbird women.

Deceault, Kamin and Verbeke each competed in the Roy Griak Invitational this past weekend earning 6K times of 24:16, 24:29 and 23:36, respectively.

As for the men, Illinois State will take to the starting line Aidan Askin, Marcelo Burbano, Ryan Bybee, Brendan Hoskins, Scott Janusick and Travis Trevizo.

Askin, Burbano and Bybee also competed in the Roy Griak Invitational last Saturday (Sept. 28) crossing the finish line with 8K times of 27:33, 28:15 and 27: 53, respectively
