Redbird Track and Field Adds Three to 2010-11 Roster

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State track and field team signed three more student-athletes for the 2010-11 season, as Akil Mills (Loganville, Ga.), Spencer Prince (Langley, British Columbia), and Shanelle Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to continue their athletic and academic pursuits at Illinois State.

Akil Mills | Loganville, Ga. | Grayson High School | Throws: Competes in the weight and hammer throws, as well as the shot put event ... ranked fourth in the nation in the weight throw with a distance of 76' 6" ... holds a career best toss in the hammer at 198 feet ... in the shot put, holds a high mark of 49' 16".

Coach Forde on Mills ... "Akil is one of the top high school performers in terms of the weight throw, but he is also outstanding in the hammer. He is a strong kid that has huge potential. When working on building the men's program, we feel Akil will help improve the program. To see him coming here is exciting, and we expect to see big things out of him."

Spencer Prince | Langley, British Columbia | Brookswood Secondary High School | Throws: One of the top throwers in Canada ... has personal-best efforts of 48' 08.75" and 148' 05.00" in the shot put and discus, respectively... also set personal-best effort of 205' 07" in the hammer throw.

Coach Forde on Prince ... "Spencer is one of the top junior performers in Canada. We expect him to perform for us in the hammer and weight throw. His main event is the hammer and weight throws, but he is talented enough that we will also have him compete in the shot put. We are happy to have Spencer on our team and we are looking for them to make an immediate impact."

Shanelle Williams | St. Louis, Mo. | Hazelwood West High School | Sprints | Hurdles: Competes in sprints and hurdles, an area where Illinois State could use more depth ... holds a career-best time of 25.5 in the 200-meter dash ... has a personal-best effort in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.8 and a personal-best time of 45.0 in the 300-meter hurdles.



Coach Forde on Williams ... "Shanelle is an athlete from St. Louis, and she will fill those needs open slots in the hurdles. She will come in right off of the bat and be a point scorer. She has a lot of potential and we expect her to make a large impact on our program. She will work on her skills and hope to see a few top performances from her over the next few years."
