ST. LOUIS—Six members of the Illinois State men’s and women’s track and field teams were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, as announced by the league office Friday.

Senior distance runners Kristen Zillmer (3.56 | Special Education) and Rachael Brewer (3.67 | Sport Management), along with junior Kelly McShea (3.45 | Elementary Education) all earned the honor. Zillmer and McShea each earned All-Conference accolades for a first and third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, while Brewer finished sixth in the women’s 5K at the MVC Outdoor Championships. McShea also captured the outright title in the women’s 5,000-meter run at The Valley Championships.

Two members of the third-place, All-Valley 4x400-meter men’s relay team earned the award, as Coty Kramer (3.45 | Accounting) and CJ Hamilton (3.40 | English) picked up a Scholar-Athlete nod. Curt Jensen (3.49 | Construction Management) also earned the award for the men’s squad. Jensen recently punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as he notched a fourth-place finish at the NCAA West Regionals May 29. Kramer and Hamilton will compete in the men’s 4x400-meter relay event tomorrow evening to wrap up the meet.

Forty men and 46 women were named to this year’s Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team. This honor is given to student-athletes who have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA, are at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and placed in the top eight at the Track and Field Championship.
