Meet Schedule

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams are set to host the Redbird Invite, marking its only home event of the 2013-14 campaign and featuring world-class athletes from across the region.

The Redbirds will face off against Bradley, Loyola, Southern Illinois, Washington (St. Louis) and Western Illinois. The hammer throw is slated for a Friday 3 p.m. start time, while all other events will be contested on Saturday with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m., and running events to follow at 1:05 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to come support the Redbirds, as it is their only home meet of the season. Admission is free to the public, and this year's Redbird Invite will play host to some of the nation's best.

This year's Redbird Invite will feature former Southern Illinois athletes J.C. Lambert and Gwen Berry. Lambert owns five All-American honors, the most for a Saluki male thrower, and finished his career with 17 total NCAA meet points. He has captured two all-time SIU records (weight throw and hammer throw) and three Missouri Valley Conference records. While competing in the Missouri Valley, Lambert won seven individual championships and qualified for the national meet six times across his indoor and outdoor seasons.

Berry was a USA National indoor weight throw champion, as she threw a mark of 81-03, which stands as the third best in USA history. Berry is currently a member of the NYAC/Nike team. In her senior season, she earned Second-Team All-America honors in the shot put by finishing 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the hammer throw as well as the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, finishing sixth. Berry earned Second-Team All-America honors in the weight throw with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Prior to that, she notched All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in four events.

Former Redbird and All-American Tim Glover will contest unattached in the men's javelin. Glover captured three All-American honors, two NCAA Championships and one runner-up finish at the NCAA Track and Field Championships during his stint at ISU.

The Redbird Invite will also include ISU Indoor All-Americans Curt Jensen and Akil Mills. Jensen is coming off a first-place finish in the shot put at the Drake Relays, while Mills recently captured fifth at Drake in the hammer throw. Jensen still holds the third-best throw on the NCAA leaderboard in the shot put, as the senior thrower tossed a mark of 66-03.75 at the Jesse Owens Classic (Apr. 19).

Also notable last weekend at the Drake Relays was the men's 4x400-meter team who recorded a season-best race with a time of 3:09.87 to finish 16th in a 26-team field, while the women's 4x800-meter relay team was one-second shy of an Illinois State record. Sean Senf clocked a personal-best time in the men's 10,000-meter race, as he finished third with a time of 30:06.26, and Rachael Brewer recorded a personal-best time in the women's 5K, racing to a time of 16:46.66.
