Curt Jensen Captures Athlete of the Week Honor

ST LOUIS, Mo. – Illinois State senior thrower Curt Jensen was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Sea Ray Relays this past weekend in Knoxville, Tenn.
This marks the fifth time Jensen has received the honor for the 2013-14 track and field campaign and the first accolade of his 2014 outdoor season.
Competing in three events this past weekend, Jensen captured two top-five finishes, including a personal-best mark in the men’s discus invitational at the Relays. The senior thrower threw a mark of 53.42m (175-03) in the discus to place fifth in a field made up of Travis Bailey from host school Tennessee who threw 60.73m and Antonio James of Michigan State who tossed a mark of 57.72m. Bailey currently sits at the No. 4 spot on the NCAA leaderboard.
The Colona, Ill., native also earned a third-place finish with a toss of 19.25m (63-02.00) to open up his 2014 outdoor shot put campaign, breaking his own record set in 2012. Jensen threw a mark of 55.97m (183-07) to finish 12th in the men’s hammer throw competition.
The Redbirds are back in action Friday, as they travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the Jesse Owens Classic.
