NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head track and field coach Elvis Forde announced the addition of a sprinter and distance runner to the 2008 recruiting class Friday. Distance runner Kevin Forde (Normal, Ill.) and sprinter Kayode Adegoke (Bolingbrook) signed National Letters of Intent (NLI's) to continue their academic and athletic careers at Illinois State.

Kevin Forde, a middle distance and cross country runner, is not going far from home as he is a product of University High School in Normall, Ill., and will join the Illinois State cross country and distance squads this coming fall.

Kevin Forde was the top-finisher for University High School's cross country team this fall at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class AA state championships, crossing the finish line in eighth with a time of 15:02. The Normal, Ill., native placed 25th in last spring's Class AA state track 3,200-meter run with a school-record time of 9:32.03.

Elvis Forde is elated that Kevin, his son, has decided to run under his direction and expressed that it was hard not to be a little emotional about Kevin's decision.

"I am glad that he has chosen to join us here as an Illinois State Redbird and become a part of our middle distance group," said Forde. "I believe Kevin choose ISU because he realized that he could benefit from being close to home, while gaining a solid education and continuing his athletic career.

"He has raw talent and has not really touched the surface of training yet. Compared to his peers, he is running significantly less miles and he still has had success. Under coach Jeff Bovee's (assistant distance track coach) guidance over the next four years he could emerge as a top-performer and hopefully help bring home a cross country or track title."

Adegoke, a three-event finalist at the 2007 IHSA state meet in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and 4x100-meter relay is currently listed as an Illinois Prep Top Times top-returner. Last spring he placed eighth in the 100 and 200 and his relay team placed sixth at the state meet. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native achieved personal-best times of 10.6 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.5 in the 200-meter dash during the 2007 outdoor track and field season.

Elvis Forde believes that Adegoke is a talented athlete and has the potential to have an immediate impact on the Illinois State sprint squad and conference competitors.

"Kayode is going to be one of the top returning sprinters in the state this year," said Forde. "From what I have seen I think he could be a top four in the 100 and 200 in our conference.

"Our focus has been to find quality individuals that can run the sprints and hurdles for us and he is obviously one of the best. He is going to be an instant producer in regards to being able to jump right into the conference contention. He has all the credentials and tools to be very successfully and I would not be surprised at all if he has an outstanding senior year this year."

Kevin Forde and Adegoke join nine others that signed NLI's earlier this month.
