ST. LOUIS—The Missouri Valley Conference named both Curt Jensen and Akil Mills Male Field Athlete of the Week for their performances this past weekend at the Don Kirby Elite in New Mexico.

Friday at the Don Kirby Elite meet, Mills notched a personal-best mark in the weight throw with a heave of 21.23m (69-08.00), besting his former career-high mark set in 2012 at the NCAA qualifying meet. Mills’ second-place toss came on his last throw of the night, moving him into the top-10 on the NCAA leaderboard and first in the Valley. This is the Loganville, Ga., native’s second honoree.

Earning his third nomination of the season, Curt Jensen had the best shot put series of his season on Saturday, consistently throwing over 60-feet with each throw and finishing with a heave of 19.65m (64-05.75). Jensen’s tosses progressively improved throughout the competition, solidifying a second-place finish overall right behind first-place Kole Weldon of Texas Tech who won with an impressive throw of 19.76m (64-10.00). Jensen currently sits in third on the NCAA leaderboard.
